The movie was influenced by the Coen brothers' 1996 film with identical title. Tolman has received praises for her performance as the part of Minnesota police officer Molly Solverson. Vanity Fair stated that Tolman was "calmly sure of taking over the whole show". Critics' Choice Television Award, Best Supporting Actress (Movie/Miniseries) as well as Golden Globe nominations were given to Tolman for her performance.
